BRANDON RIDENOUR + TRIO STRYJO

The festival will be inaugurated by the American trumpeter Brandon Ridenour, and with him the jazz Trio Stryjo. The concert program will be filled with the musicians’ own compositions and improvisations. The domain of Trio Stryjo is open improvisation, which, through the mutual inspiration of the band members, leads to unique musical spaces. Unpredictable, yet consistent and communicative for the audience.

There will also be the premiere of a piece Turning Table for trumpet concertante, jazz trio, flugelhorn and trombone, specially commissioned from Nikola Kołodziejczyk for the purposes of the festival.

The commissioning of the Turning Table by N. Kołodziejczyk was co-financed from the funds of the Ministry of Culture and National Heritage, coming from the Culture Promotion Fund as part of the programme ‘Composing Commissions’ realised by the National Institute of Music and Dance.

FILM MUSIC CONCERT

The concert will be conducted by legendary Hollywood Studio horn player JAMES THATCHER – a favourite of John Williams; JEROEN BERWAERTS – trumpeter and lecturer at the Hochschule für Musik in Hannover and the Royal Academy of Music in London, and THOMAS RØISLAND – tuba player of the Danish National Symphony Orchestra. The concert will be prepared during the festival week and the performers will be participants of the international instrumental workshops, supported by the festival’s tutors.

The programme includes music by the most eminent film music composers – John Willams and James Horner – from such films as Star Trek, The Mask of Zorro, Rocky, Harry Potter etc. in arrangements for large brass ensemble.

RADEK BABORAK | ZIELONA GÓRA PHILHARMONIC

World-famous Czech horn player Radek Baborák will conduct the Zielona Góra Philharmonic Orchestra and perform as soloist in the concert. Also performing will be Berlin Philharmonic trumpet playerAndre Schoch, trumpeter Jeroen Berwaerts, trombonist Lars Karlin and tuba players Roland Szentpali and Thomas Røisland. The concert programme will include baroque and classical pieces, either originally composed or specially arranged, with brass playing leading roles.

ADAM RAPA | CORNO BRASS ENSEMBLE

The main theme of the final concert will be Adam Rapa’s music, inspired by famous classical and Latin American compositions. The first part of the concert will be filled with compositions for solo trumpet, two pianos and percussion. The second part will feature a full-sized big band made up of festival artists.

Quote from the composer: As in previous years, we will strike at the minds and senses of the audience, and challenge the members of the ensemble with unusual but entertaining repertoire.
