A recipient of the NARAS (Grammy)”Most Valuable Player” Award, Thatcher began his career playing in the orchestras of the Utah Symphony, Phoenix Symphony and Los Angeles Philharmonic. As a soloist, principal horn and guest principal, Mr. Thatcher has played with the following: London Symphony Orchestra, London Philharmonic, Cincinatti Symphony, Bolshoi Ballet, American Ballet Theater, Royal Danish Ballet, Los Angeles Philharmonic, Los Angeles Music Center Opera and Opera Pacifica, to name a few. Thatcher has also performed as solo horn on thousands of movies for composers John Williams, James Horner, Jerry Goldsmith, James Newton Howard, Alan Silvestri, Danny Elfman, Hans Zimmer, Randy Newman and many others. His solo horn work also includes Barbra Streisand, Frank Sinatra, Kenny Rogers, Dave Grusin, Harry Connick Jr. and Mel Torme.
Thatcher currently travels the world, teaching and playing principal horn in festivals with members of the New York Philharmonic, Metropolitan Opera Orchestra, Philadelphia Orchestra and Chicago Symphony.
His solo cd “Now Playing” was on the Amazon “Must have horn cd” list for a number of years. His cd “Strauss 2” with a Hollywood orchestra is on cd baby. Later, this year he’ll be putting out another cd featuring the Britten “Serenade”, Strauss 1 and Schubert’s “”Auf dem Strom” recorded in Vienna with the Vienna Chamber Orchestra.
